Charming beaches, crystal clear sea, ancient villages and vast expanse of secular olive trees: the Cilento is this and much more!
This wild and unspoiled land, located in the southern part of Campania, is pretty much my second home since I was a child, and it never ends up to amaze me.
As perfect destination for summer holidays, Cilento is home to many places of interest and coasts to love.
In this post I want to talk about some of the delicious seaside cities of the "north" part of this wonderful land.

Starting from Salerno, first of all worth a visit the city of Agropoli, an important coastal center located to the south of the Gulf of Salerno and the Paestum Archaeological Park, and an ideal place for nature lovers.
Not to be missed at Agropoli is a stroll in its adorable old town. The latter, probably inhabited already in Neolithic times, is full of characteristic alleyways (with delicious antique shops) and suggestive houses excavated in the rock.
To visit, then, in the ancient village is surely the Castle overlooking the sea, where you will find photographic exhibitions and an open-air theater.
Then, the city of Agropoli is also a popular destination for the crystal clear waters of its sea (Blue Flag of Legambiente).
Among the seaside resorts, in addition to the beach promenade with golden sand beaches and lushes and establishments for all tastes, a particular mention goes to the Trentova Bay, UNESCO World Heritage Site, and in my opinion the most striking beach of the city.

In Agropoli I also had the pleasure of discovering a delightful place where to stay. I am talking about the B&B La Civetta which, thanks to its hilly position, offers a lovely view of the Gulf of Salerno: from my room, the "Capri" room, the view of the Faraglioni and the Amalfi Coast was really breathtaking!
The B&B La Civetta is the perfect place to rejuvenate after a day at the sea or discovering the fascinating surrounding villages. The property is well-maintained and is completely immersed in nature.
Also good is the breakfast with Cilento's fresh produce (very good handmade jams!) and the cuisine of the restaurant, which, in respect of the Cilento tradition and values, offers to its guests dishes prepared with seasonal food (don't miss the local vegetables dishes and the yummy mozzarella of Bufala). And you can enjoy this fantastic cuisine on the large terraces overlooking the sea: really impressive!

Continuing from Agropoli to the south, we meet the now famous (as the location of the film "Welcome to the South") city of Santa Maria di Castellabbate.
It is a delightful and very elegant place with fantastic golden sandy beaches. This town is so enchanting to receive the Unesco World Heritage title; il also hosted illustrious people such as Gioacchino Murat and Ruggero Leoncavallo.
Also here there is the medieval village with a thousand staircases and narrow streets leading to the massive Castle in an overwhelming position, founded in 1123 with the aim of defending the local population from the attacks of the Saracens.

Finally, from Castellabbate you can easily reach Punta Licosa (reachable only on foot from Ogliastro Marina), considered one of the 12 most beautiful seaside pleaces in the world.
Theater of myths and legends, here the atmosphere is really magical. Land of the Mermaids, it is said that in this place the Siren Leucosia was turned into a rock after being thrown by a cliff for an unpaid love, and it seems that this place always inspired Homer: it was in this sea that Ulysses listened the singing of the Mermaids.
What to say, Cilento is a land of truly fascinating charm, to be visited absolutely.
But this is just a taste, the trip along this wonderful land has just begun!
