During our tour of the North-East Italy, we could not resist to the charm of Verona and, although we had not planned a tour in this beautiful townwe have managed to spend here an entire day.

We reached Verona by train from Padua: ticket costs 6 euros.
From the station, after about 10-15 minutes of walking, you'll arrive in the beautiful Piazza Bra, where immediately the bright colors of the houses and the majesty of the Arena will make you fall in love with this city.
Due to the short time available, we decided not to enter the Arena (the entrance ticket, however, costs 6 Euros), preferring to discover the narrow streets of the old town and to breathe the wonderful atmosphere.
From Piazza Bra continue, then, to Via Mazzini, the street full of shops and big names, up to a junction, where on the right you will find the House of Juliet, while on the left one of the most beautiful places of the city: Piazza Erbe .

Piazza Erbe is truly lovely: lively and elegant, it is the ideal place where to enjoy a break (especially during the hot days), eating delicious fresh fruit sold by the many souvenir and food stalls that occupy the center of the square.
From here, crossing the Arco della Costa, who hangs a whale rib with uncertain origin (probably it was an advertising of an old pharmacy, since it was said that the powders obtained from the bone of the whale had healing properties), you get to Piazza dei Signori, one of the most special squares and rich of art in the city.
Also known as Piazza Dante, due to the large statue that remembers the seven years that the Poet spent in the city, it is a must for any visit to Verona. It was in the past the site of public institutions of the city, and houses the City Hall with its tower, which offers a fantastic view, the Palace of the Court and the Prefecture and the Loggia of the Council.
Then, just a few steps from the Piazza, take a look to the Arche Scaligere, a very beautiful Gotich funerary complex.

In Via Cappello, however, there is the House of Juliet. The complex is really adorable and the famous balcony absolutely delicious.
The only flaw: the excessive crowds that ruins the atmosphere.
Inside the house, however, there is also a small museum.
For romantics, in Vicolo San Marco in foro there is the Well of Love. I recommend a visit to admire the beautiful surrounding architecture.

Do not miss, finally, the beautiful Cathedral and the walk along the river, until to reach Castelvecchio, a medieval complex built as a fortress and residence.
What else? This is definitely just a small taste of Verona, a city rich in art and history, to which in the future I have to dedicate a longer stay!

  2. Piace moltissimo anche a me Verona!
