SEIANO: LA SUGGESTIVA PROCESSIONE DEL CRISTO MORTO

Visitare la Costiera Sorrentina non significa solo mare, panorami mozzafiato e hotel da favola. Visitare questa meravigliosa zona della Campania significa anche farsi travolgere da antiche e secolari tradizioni, spesso incredibilmente suggestive.

To visit the Sorrento coast is not just sea, breathtaking views and fabulous hotels. To visit this beautiful part of Campania also means being overwhelmed by ancient and secular traditions, often incredibly evocative.

Imperdibili sono, ad esempio, le Processioni del Cristo Morto che hanno luogo durante la sera del venerdì santo in diversi comuni della zona(Seiano, Vico Equense, Sorrento ecc.).
Quest'anno ho avuto modo di assistere a quella dell'Arciconfraternita della Morte e Orazione di Seiano, che si ripete ogni tre anni dal 1877 e che si distingue dalle altre per la presenza di soldati romani che, insieme ai personaggi più noti e ai simboli della Passione di Cristo, sfilano con curatissimi abiti d'epoca per le buie strade della città.
Assistere a questa Via Crucis è un'esperienza estremamente particolare: alla suggestiva luce delle fiaccole, 350 figuranti, di cui molti anonimi incappucciati rossi(colore simbolo della Passione di Cristo) seguiti da un coro di bambini, dopo aver pecorso le buie e silenziose strade di Vico Equense, fanno ritorno in una Seiano avvolta da un'aura mistica.
Si tratta, quindi, di una processione ricca di fascino, che purtroppo verrà ripetuta di nuovo fra tre anni.
Quelle che si svolgono nei comuni limitrofi, però, non sono da meno: da segnare sul calendario per il prossimo anno!

You can't miss, for example, the processions of the Dead Christ that take place during the evening of Good Friday in several towns of the area (Seiano, Vico Equense, Sorrento etc.).
This year I had the opportunity to attend that of the Archconfraternity of Death and Prayer of Seiano, which is repeated every three years since 1877 and which is distinguished from the others by the presence of Roman soldiers that, with the best known characters and symbols of  the Passion of Christ, parading with manicured ancient costumes along the dark streets of the city.
It is an extremely fascinating experience: with the suggestive torchlight, 350 participants, of which many anonymous red hooded(color symbol of the Passion of Christ), followed by a children's choir, after crossing the dark and silent streets of Vico Equense, return to a mystical Seiano.
It is, therefore, a very particular procession and, although it will be repeated in three years, also the others in the neighboring cities are very impressive: to mark on the calendar for the next year!
