Few people know that in Sorrento, a few steps from one of the most elegant squares of Italy, there is an incredibly charming place, always at the top of the world rankings relative to the most incredible places in the world.
This is the Valley of the Mills, an old mill, now abandoned and almost swallowed by the vegetation.

About the history of this incredible place very little is known. What is certain is that in the past the Sorrento peninsula was crossed by five valleys, indicating the boundaries between one city and another, and the Valley of the Mills of Sorrento is the best preserved. It was for many years a place of fundamental importance: here the grain was milled for the entire population of Sorrento.

Attached to the mill there were, then, a sawmill, fed by natural springs, and a public laundry, used by the women to wash clothes.
This mill lost its function following the construction of Piazza Tasso (1866), and is now private property not open to visitors.

You can see it from above, after a short stretch of road from Piazza Tasso, and it is impossible not to be enchanted in front of that incredibly fascinating sight: the surrounding area is almost completely closed and protected from the weather, so the high humidity promotes the growth of vegetation, which seems almost to swallow those ancient ruins.
If you are in Sorrento, this place is, therefore, an absolute must!
