FIRENZE-TOP 10

Firenze è, senza dubbio, una tra le più belle città italiane(seconda, per me, solo a Roma). Ci sono stata diverse volte ed è proprio nel capoluogo toscano che ho passato il mio ultimo Capodanno.

Hanno lavorato e vissuto qui artisti che tutto il mondo ci invidia: Michelangelo, Donatello, Raffaello, Brunelleschi... Passeggiando per le strade si ha l'impressione di essere tornati indietro nel tempo: come ritrovarsi nel magnifico cinquecento rinascimentale.

Florence is one of the most beautiful Italian cities. I have been there several times and it is in the Tuscan capital that I spent my last New Year's Eve.
Great artists worked and lived here: Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael, Brunelleschi ... Walking through the streets you'll come back in the magnificent Renaissance.

Seppur non grandissima, e tutta a dimensione d'uomo(e soprattutto di passeggio), Firenze offre tantissime opportunità ai suoi turisti.

Vediamo insieme, allora, le 10 cose che proprio non potete perdervi se capitate di qui:

Let's see, then, the 10 things you can not miss if you happen here:

1)Piazza del Duomo: dovete per forza partire da qui: in un fazzoletto di terra, troverete alcune tra le opere d'arte più belle di tutti i tempi: il Duomo; il Campanile di Giotto(dove si può anche salire); il Battistero; l'arcinota cupola di Brunelleschi. Lo splendore di questa piazza vi farà subito capire perfettamente con che razza di città avete a che fare;

1) Piazza del Duomo: start from here: in a piece of land, you will find some of the most beautiful works of art of all times: the Cathedral; Giotto's Bell Tower (where you can also climb); the Baptistery; the very well known dome of Brunelleschi. The splendor of this square will instantly make you understand perfectly what kind of city you have to do;

2)Gli uffizi: stiamo parlando di uno dei musei italiani più conosciuti al mondo. Potrete ammirare opere d'arte di ogni epoca e tradizione. Ticket d'ingresso: 8 euro, 4 il ridotto. Preparatevi, però, a lunghe, estenuanti file;

2) Uffizi: we are talking about one of the most famous Italian museums in the world. You can admire works of art of every age and tradition. Entry ticket: € 8, 4 reduced. Be prepared, however, to long, grueling lines;

3)Ponte Vecchio: invaso da flussi incredibili di turisti ad ogni ora del giorno, è, credo, tra i punti più fotografati in città. Le caratteristiche botteghe degli orafi e dei gioiellieri lasceranno scintille nei vostri occhi. Anche se pieno di attività commerciali, è più adatto al passeggio che allo shopping(a meno che non abbiate un bel conto in banca!);

3) Ponte Vecchio: the most photographed place in the city. The characteristic shops of goldsmiths and jewelers will leave sparkles in your eyes;

4)Palazzo Vecchio: secondo cuore della città, dopo Piazza del Duomo, Piazza della Signoria è incantevole. Sculture fantastiche disseminate in ogni dove; e, svettante con la sua torre, il famoso Palazzo Vecchio, oggi sede del Comune e antica residenza dei Medici. Visitabili anche gli interni, con alcuni ambienti di impareggiabile bellezza;

4) Palazzo Vecchio: second heart of the city, after Piazza del Duomo, Piazza della Signoria is enchanting. Fantastic sculptures everywhere; and, with its soaring tower, the famous Palazzo Vecchio, now the city hall and ancient residence of the Medici. You can visit also the wonderful interior;

5)Basilica di Santa Croce: la chiesa fiorentina che più mi ha colpita(e di chiese, a Firenze, ce ne sono proprio tante!). Riposano qui gli artisti e gli uomini d'ingegno più rappresentativi della storia d'Italia: Michelangelo, Galilei, Alfieri, Canova, Foscolo, Machiavelli, Rossini(troverete anche un monumento commemorativo di Dante). Potrete visitare anche la Cappella dei pazzi, dove fu ucciso Giuliano de Medici. Vi consiglio di prendere il biglietto d'ingresso cumulativo con la casa di Michelangelo;

5) Basilica of Santa Croce: the church in Florence that most struck me. Artists and the most representative genius of the history of Italy were buried here: Michelangelo, Galileo, Alfieri, Canova, Foscolo, Machiavelli, Rossini (there is also a memorial for Dante). You can also visit the Chapel of the insane, where Giuliano de Medici was killed. I recommend the cumulative ticket with the house of Michelangelo;

6)Palazzo Pitti e Giardini di Boboli: altro grande complesso museale di cui fanno parte la Galleria Palatina e quella di Arte Moderna. Ma la parte migliore, a mio parere, è rappresentata dai Giardini di Boboli, una sterminata area verde punteggiata di opere d'arte dall'eccelso valore;

6) Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens: another great museum complex which includes the Palatine Gallery and the Modern Art Gallery. But the best part, in my opinion, is represented by the Boboli Gardens, a vast green area with works of art of gret value;

7)Cappelle Medicee: trovano qui la sepoltura le spoglie di molti esponenti della più nota famiglia fiorentina(c'è anche la tomba di Lorenzo de Medici). Il nome di Michelangelo riecheggia incontrastato ad ogni angolo;

7) Medici Chapels: here are the tombs of many members of the most famous Florentine family (there is also the tomb of Lorenzo de Medici). The name of Michelangelo echoes unchallenged at each corner;

8)Chiesa e casa di Dante: non molto evocativa e curata la casa(4 euro di ingresso troppi per quello che viene offerto ai visitatori), ma molto bella e affascinante la Chiesa di Santa Margherita dei Cerchi dove, secondo la tradizione, Dante incontrò Beatrice la prima volta. Chiesa minuscola e molto raccolta, con un'atmosfera particolare, ha l'unica pecca dei tanti bigliettini di innamorati vari lasciati sulla tomba di Beatrice, che non tanto si confanno alla figura e all'opera di Dante;

8) Church and the home of Dante: the house is not very evocative and curated (4 euro is too much for what is offered to visitors), but the Santa Margherita de Cerchi where, according to tradition, Dante met Beatrice the first time, is very beautiful and charming. The Church is tiny, with a special atmosphere, with many cards of various lovers left on the tomb of Beatrice, that not so much belonged to the figure and work of Dante;

9)Farmacia di Santa Maria Novella: nei pressi della stazione, questa farmacia/museo è veramente spettacolare. Potrete acquistare(a prezzi non proprio abbordabilissimi) prodotti artigianali di indubbia qualità, ma, più di tutto, potrete vagare nelle varie sale, trasportati da un inebriante profumo, e ammirando gli splendidi affreschi e il prezioso mobilio. L'ingresso è gratuito;

9) Pharmacy of Santa Maria Novella: near the station, this pharmacy/museum is truly stunning. You can buy handicrafts of undoubted quality, but, most of all, you can wander though the various rooms, carried by a heady perfume, and admiring the beautiful frescos and precious furniture. Admission is free;

10)Il mercato centrale: chiudo questa classifica con un'indicazione per veri gourmet. Al piano inferiore di questo golosissimo mercato coperto, potrete comperare prodotti di rara qualità; mentre, al piano superiore, potrete pranzare e cenare con delizie per palati fini(consumando i vostri pasti sulle caratteristiche panche in legno). Adatto per tutti i gusti: troverete dolci, pizze, carni(imperdibile la fiorentina), salumi e latticini, cucina vegana, paste ecc ecc, un'offerta infinita con l'unica costante della qualità.

10) The Central Market: I close this ranking with an indication for true gourmets. On the lower floor of this luscious covered market, you can buy products of rare quality; while, on the top floor, you can dine with delights for gourmets (consuming your meals on wooden benches). You will find cakes, pizzas, meats, vegan cuisine, pastries etc etc.

Questa era la mia personale classifica dei posti più belli di Firenze, utile per chi può restare in città per non molto tempo. Per chi non va di fretta, invece, sono tanti altri i posti da non perdere(così tanti che dovrò per forza di cose dedicare loro un altro post): Piazzale Michelangelo, Museo del Bargello, Cappella Brancacci, Chiesa di Santa Maria Novella, solo per citarne alcuni.

This is my personal ranking of the most beautiful places in Florence, useful for those who can not stay in the city for a long time. For people that will stay in the city for more days there are other beautiful places to see: Piazzale Michelangelo, the Bargello Museum, Brancacci Chapel, Church of Santa Maria Novella, and many others.
