BARI: UN TUFFO NEL VERO SUD

Bari è stata la città che ho usato, per diversi giorni, come base durante il mio on the road della Puglia. Il capoluogo pugliese, città verace e che si rivela al suo visitatore pian piano, è perfetta, infatti, per visitare i tanti vicini paesini più noti e turistici della Puglia (Polignano a Mare, Alberobello, Locorotondo per citare solo i più belli); ma ha anche tanto da offrire di per sé.

Bari is the city that I used, for several days, as base during my on the road of Puglia. The Apulian capital, typical southern city, is perfect, in fact, to visit the many nearby villages and the most famous places in Puglia (Polignano a Mare, Alberobello, Locorotondo to mention only the most beautiful); but it also has much to offer in itself.

Sarebbe impossibile immaginare Bari, una volta che ci si è stati, senza ricorrere all'immagine del mare; e infatti, in città, lo troverete un po' ovunque: la passeggiata sul vasto e rilassante lungomare, non a caso, è una tappa fondamentale e obbligata per chiunque: l'odore della salsedine, una romantica o pensosa sosta su una panchina, la sorniona illuminazione dei lampioni quando si fa sera. Insomma: Bari è il suo mare; impossibile figurarsela senza!

It would be impossible to imagine Bari without the image of the sea; in fact, in the city, you will find it everywhere: the walk on the relaxing waterfront is an important breakthrough and a must for anyone: the smell of the salt air, a romantic or thoughtful rest on a bench, the sly lighting of street lamps when evening. In short, Bari is its sea!

Il centro storico, poi, rimodernato e ristrutturato recentemente, ha da offrire, prima di tutto, emozioni che pochi posti, ormai, possono vantare di suggerire: la sensazione di trovarsi in un luogo verace e genuino, che non cambia faccia per far piacere al turista, ma che rimane immutabile nella sua verità. Vagando a caso nei tanti vicoletti, incontrerete tante scene di vita quotidiana tipiche del Sud: le famiglie riunite fuori alle porte di casa a conversare all'aperto, i bambini che giocano a pallone per strada e nelle piazze, la musica ad alto volume sparata dai balconi. In più, qui a Bari, non sarà difficile trovare molte signore intente a vendere, lavorate a mano direttamente dalle proprie cucine, le mitiche orecchiette. Imperdibile, a mio parere, per quanto riguarda il cibo, almeno una sosta dalla piccola friggitoria che vende esclusivamente le tipiche sgagliozze, quadratini di polenta fritta (6 per solo un euro).

The old town, then, modernized and renovated recently, has to offer, above all, emotions that few places, now, can boast to suggest: the feeling of being in a true and genuine place, that does not change the face to please tourist, but remains immutable in its truth. Wandering at random in the many narrow streets, you will meet many scenes of everyday life typical of the South: families gathered in the street, children playing football in the squares, music from every balcony. In addition, here in Bari, it will not be difficult to find many ladies intent to sell, handmade directly from their kitchens, the mythical fresh pasta: the orecchiette.

Girando a caso per le stradine della Bari Vecchia, prima o poi, c'è da starne sicuri, vi ritroverete davanti l'imponente Basilica di San Nicola, il santo patrono della città. La Basilica è molto particolare: lungo le navate e nella cripta, infatti, troverete a pregare anche molti cristiani ortodossi, poiché San Nicola di Myra, le cui spoglie si trovano qui, è uno dei santi maggiormente venerati anche fra i cristiani ortodossi. Un altro edificio religioso che vale la pena di essere visitato è la Cattedrale di San Sabino.

In the old town you will find the imposing Basilica of St. Nicholas, the patron saint of the city. The Basilica is very unique: along the aisles and in the crypt, in fact, there are also many Orthodox Christians, because St. Nicholas of Myra, whose remains are here, is one of the most venerated saints even among Orthodox Christians. Another religious building that is worth a visit is the Cathedral of San Sabino.

Per gli appassionati di storia, poi, c'è l'imponente Castello Normanno Svevo, appena fuori dal centro storico.

Nei pressi del corso principale, dove si svolge la vita economica e sociale della Bari moderna e dove dovete recarvi se non potete fare a meno dello shopping anche quando siete in viaggio, si trovano molti importanti e storici edifici: primo fra tutti, il Teatro Petruzzelli, uno dei simboli della città.

For people that love history, then, there is the imposing Norman Castle, just outside the historic center.

Near the main street, where there is the economic and social life of the modern Bari, there are many important and historic buildings: first of all, the Teatro Petruzzelli, one of the city's landmarks.

Durante il mio soggiorno a Bari, ho avuto il piacere di soggiornare presso un'ottima struttura: il B&B Le Uascézze. Il B&B si trova in una posizione perfetta, esattamente nel centro storico, immerso in quei caratteristici vicoli dove è un piacere perdersi. Grazie a una cucina attrezzata di tutto punto e alla abbondante colazione che viene fatta trovare direttamente in camera, potrete soggiornare con la massima indipendenza. Le camere spaziose e pulite e un arredamento semplice ma di buon gusto, completano l'offerta. Inoltre, nonostante il B&B si trovi in pieno centro, le camere risultano comunque silenziose e calme. Proprio a pochi metri dalla struttura, poi, troverete anche un omonimo ristorante, gestito dagli stessi proprietari del B&B.

Insomma, Bari è una città che merita di essere vista almeno una volta nella vita; inoltre, la sua vicinanza a tanti altri posti bellissimi, la rende perfetta per cominciare il vostro viaggio alla scoperta di quella incantevole regione che è la Puglia!
