GRECIA LOW COST: AL MARE IN PENISOLA CALCIDICA!

La penisola calcidica è un sogno per tutti gli amanti del mare e del relax.
Chilometri di spiagge, romantici ristorantini, strutture alberghiere di ottimo livello e per tutte le tasche: non ci vorrà molto prima di innamorarsi completamente di questi luoghi stupendi!
La penisola è divisa in tre piccole dita: Kassandra, Sithonia e Monte Athos.

The Halkidiki peninsula is a dream for all lovers of the sea and relaxation.
Miles of beaches, romantic restaurants, excellent hotels for all budgets: it will not take long before you completely fall in love with these wonderful places!
The peninsula is divided into three small fingers: Kassandra, Sithonia and Mount Athos.

Le prime due sono normalmente visitabili; il Monte Athos, invece, è un imponente complesso monastico, una repubblica autonoma dallo stato greco.
Per visitare il terzo dito della penisola, si deve richiedere uno speciale permesso alla curia di Ouranopoli (sono ammessi solo gli uomini, meglio se ortodossi).
E' un luogo di preghiera e ritiro dove le normali regole della modernità sono abolite.
Da Ouranopoli, ultimo villaggio visitabile normalmente, partono delle mini-crociere che vi mostreranno lo spettacolo dei monasteri scavati nella roccia(le imbarcazioni, in ogni caso, devono restare lontane dalla costa circa 500 metri).
Raggiungere le altre due dita, invece, è molto semplice. L'aeroporto più vicino è quello di Salonicco. Proprio dall'aeroporto, se non avete affittato una macchina, vi basterà prendere il bus numero 78 che vi porterà direttamente alla stazione KTEL CHALKIDIKIS (qui il sito), dove troverete i pullman diretti verso tutti i villaggi della penisola.

The first two are normally visitable; Mount Athos, instead, is an imposing monastic complex, an autonomous republic from the greek state.
To visit the third finger of the peninsula, you must obtain a special permit: only men are allowed (preferably orthodox men).
It 's a place of prayer and retreat where the normal rules of modernity are abolished.
Mini-cruises, that will show you the performance of the monasteries carved into the rock (the boat, however, must stay away from the coast about 500 meters), depart from Ouranoupolis, the last village normally visitable.  
To reach the other two fingers, instead, is very simple. The nearest airport is in Thessaloniki. Just from the airport, if you have not rented a car, is possible to take the bus number 78, that will take you directly to the bus station (KTEL CHALKIDIKIS , here the web site). Here, there are buses directed to all the villages of the peninsula.

Il numero di collegamenti giornalieri è sufficiente e il viaggio abbastanza comodo. Per la spesa, calcolate una decina di euro circa a tratta (se comprate andata e ritorno insieme, la tariffa è scontata del 10%).
Kassandra è il dito turisticamente più organizzato, Sithonia quello con i luoghi più selvaggi e incontaminati.
Io ho soggiornato in un piccolo villaggio a Kassandra, Posidi.
Posidi ha un minuscolo centro molto carino, una breve passeggiata sul mare di poco meno di un chilometro dove hotel e taverne si alternano ai pochi negozietti e market.
Ma sono le spiagge, senza dubbio, il principale protagonista di questi luoghi. 
A Posidi ce ne sono dappertutto e per tutti i gusti. 
La più caratteristica è, sicuramente, la cosiddetta lingua.

The number of daily connections is sufficient and the journey quite comfortable. For the ticket, you have to calculate about 10 euros each way (if you buy a round-trip ticket, the rate is discounted by 10%).   
Kassandra, for tourism, is the most organized  finger, Sithonia the one with the most wild and unspoiled places.   
I stayed in a small village in Kassandra, Posidi.   
Posidi has a very cute tiny center, near to the sea, where hotels and taverns are interspersed with a few small shops and market. 
But the beaches are, undoubtedly, the main character of these places. 
There are beaches everywhere and for everyone in Posidi.   
The most famous is called 'tongue'.

E' una sottile striscia di terra dove può capitare, nelle giornate giuste, di guardare uno spettacolo unico al mondo: da un lato il mare in tempesta, con giganteschi cavalloni, dall'altro l'acqua calma e piatta come una tavola...da non crederci!

A completare la magia di questa stupenda spiaggia, il caratteristico faro che svetta a pochi metri.
Bello, spettacolare ma anche economico il mare qui a Posidi: infatti, per accomodarvi in uno dei tantissimi lidi, vi basterà ordinare una qualsiasi consumazione e vi potrete gustare gratuitamente il fresco dell'ombrellone e l'agio della sdraio (usanza comune a molte spiagge greche).

It 's a tiny strip of land where it can happen, in the right days, to look at a unique show in the world: on one side the sea is in storm, with huge waves, on the other hand, the water is calm and flat as a board ... incredible! 
To complete the magic of this beautiful beach, there is the typical lighthouse. 
Beautiful, spectacular but also economic is the sea here in Posidi: in fact, to sit in one of the many beaches, you can order only some drinks to enjoy free and cool umbrellas and chairs (typical of a lot of greek beaches).

Anche per quanto riguarda il cibo, le numerose taverne non vi faranno rimpiangere di aver scelto questo come posto per le vostre vacanze. Mangiando abbondantemente, anche pesce, non spenderete mai più di 15-17 euro a persona.

Posidi è, tra i tanti villaggi di Kassandra, sicuramente tra i più calmi e meno affollati, adatto per le famiglie e per chi è alla ricerca di tanta calma e silenzio, ma se preferite un po' di movimento in più, non c'è da preoccuparsi: vi basterà prendere uno dei tanti pullman che collegano i villaggi tra loro e in una mezz'oretta al massimo potrete visitare borghi più grandi dove bar, pub e mini-disco non mancano affatto: Kallithea e Pefkohori sono le due piccole città più adatte per chi non vuole rinunciare a un po' di vita notturna (chiaramente non aspettatevi Ibiza o Mikhonos, la parola d'ordine nella penisola calcidica è sempre relax, relax, relax).

Also about the food, the numerous taverns will not make you regret choosing this place for your holidays. Eating plenty, even fish, you will not spend more than 15-17 euros per person.   
Posidi is, among the many villages of Kassandra, surely one of the less crowded, suitable for families and for those that are looking for calmness and quietness, but if you prefer a more bustling place, don't worry: you can just take one of the many buses that connect the villages together and in half an hour you can visit places with a lot of bigger bars, pubs and mini-disco: Kallithea and Pefkohori are the two small towns most suitable for who doesn't want to miss a bit of nightlife (of course don't expect Ibiza or Mikhonos, the watchword in Chalkidiki is always relax, relax, relax).
